Living at Home/Block Nurse Programs are providing an increasing amount of caregiver support services. We provide the support and encouragement they need to help them deal with stress and challenges of their care-giving. Our staff includes a caregiver consultant who supports Caregivers as needed. Among other things, we provide respite care so caregivers can get a break and save themselves from getting sick, a well known fact in care-giving.
At LAH/BHP, we provide education and a support group for caregivers. We offer a private personal needs assessment for both seniors and individuals caring for a senior or other person with memory problems or other medical issues.
Our wellness activities include weekly exercise classes and health presentations, some of which include nutrition, fall prevention and mental health. Our newsletters include health and other information, client stories and some humorous jokes. Seniors look forward to our social activities which help build their quality of life. The health and wellness side of our program is expanding each year.
We have just implemented the Sanford model of Chronic Disease Self-Management Series of classes. These classes are for people of all ages. Chronic Diseases include Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Depression, Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema and other Physical and Mental Health Conditions. We will be offering two of these classes annually. All the classes we provide are evidence based programs and we have seen positive health outcomes from participants taking the classes.
